The man behind the institute

Dr. Eddie G. Smith, Jr., DDS, FACD, FICD

Dr. Smith authored the first Constitution of the NDA, served as the first Speaker of the House of Delegates, and led the Association as its President. He believed the future of the NDA would be decided by the strength of its leaders.

To him, the duty of every current leader was clear: train and mentor those who follow, and make sure the Association's information, history and knowledge is preserved and handed on to the next generation. Those with the capacity to lead must do so, and carrying the mantle of leadership means becoming a lifelong student of the leadership process.

The Eddie G. Smith Leadership Institute equips current and future leaders with the tools to guide the National Dental Association forward, through expert-led sessions, peer learning and mentorship.

Structured instruction from experienced NDA leaders on governance, advocacy and running an organisation that lasts.

Peer learning

A cohort of members at the same stage, working through real leadership situations together.

Mentorship

Guidance from those who have held office before you, so the Association's history and know-how carry forward.
