Description: The University of Tennessee Health Science Center, College of Dentistry, seeks nominations and applications for the position of Chair of the Department of Restorative Dentistry. This position will be at the Associate or Full-Professor level on the tenure or non-tenure track. The College of Dentistry seeks candidates whose experience in teaching, research, and service has prepared them to contribute to our commitment to being an exceptional leader in dental education. The Chair is an integral part of the College of Dentistry’s administrative team and provides innovative leadership and advocacy in critical areas of pre-doctoral and clinical education, patient care, service, and research.
The Department has the primary responsibility for the following areas: dental anatomy, operative dentistry, biomaterials, esthetic dentistry, DAU, and laser dentistry. The Chair will provide vision, focus, and mentorship to further develop a dynamic and growing department. The Chair will identify, cultivate, and pursue internal and external partnerships that lead to collaborative opportunities. Other duties will include administrative responsibilities, such as departmental planning and budgeting; staffing and supervision; plus departmental representation to the College of Dentistry, the Health Science Center, and the Community. Minimum Requirements: Applicants must have a D.D.S./D.M.D. degree and meet eligibility requirements for a Tennessee dental license or educational faculty license. The successful candidate will be an individual with excellent communication skills, administrative experience, demonstrated vision and creativity with regard to dental education, health care delivery, research, and service. The candidate must have highly developed academic leadership capabilities and outstanding academic credentials meriting appointment to the rank of associate or full professor on the tenure or non-tenure track. Experience working with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body is a requirement along with being a team player in the best interest of the University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Dentistry. The candidate must have actively taught full time as a Course Director within the Department of Restorative Dentistry, the Department of Prosthodontics, or a comparable department relative to Operative Dentistry in the pre-clinical and clinical setting. The Chair of Restorative Dentistry will have the opportunity to participate in faculty practice.
Preferred but not required:
- Experience in the procedures and or protocols for the following dental licensures (SRTA, CITA, ADEX).
- Completion of GPR or AEGD program from a CODA accredited school
- Private Practice, Community Dentistry, or Public Health experience as a practicing dentist
- Advanced degrees such as PhD, MHA, MPA, MSD, MDS, MBA, or Masters in (such as Operative/Restorative/General Dentistry)
Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
