The National Dental Association-GlaxoSmithKline (NDA-GSK) Speakers
Bureau and Spokesperson Development Program is issuing a call for
nominations for candidates who will be selected to participate in
the training programs for 2008. This is the second year that GSK
has awarded the NDA a grant to develop this important initiative
and membership benefit. The objective of this initiative is to develop
a cadre of professionally trained African American dental professionals
who can serve as media spokespersons and world-class scientific
clinicians.
The national spokespersons selected for 2007 were: Drs: Carrie
Brown, Lexington, KY, Daphne Ferguson-Young, Nashville, TN, Kanetta
Lott, Atlanta, GA, Benjamin Watkins, Washington, DC, and Ruth Ross,
Nashville, TN.
The program concept includes four key components:

Advanced training for scientific speakers, clinicians,

Media training for national spokesperson(s) |

Public Policy training |

Formation of a “NDA Visiting Lecturer’s Program”

that nominees must satisfy. Also, please note that a recommendation
from the applicant’s NDA District Board Member is required
on all candidates’ applications. Letters of recommendation
MUST be included and submitted with the application. Applications
received after the deadline and incomplete applications will not
be considered.
The deadline for the NDA to receive COMPLETE applications is Monday,
October 1, 2007. The selected semi-finalists will be notified on
October 16, 2007. Semi-finalists will be asked to travel to Washington,
DC, with all expenses paid, for an “on camera” interview
at the WUSA-TV9 studio the first week in November (exact dates TBD).
The final selection of the trainees for the 2008 program will be
made by the Advisory Committee. The decision of the Committee is
final.
